How to Grow Aloe Vera Indoors from Cutting

Growing aloe vera is not that easy. It’s a little tricker if you are growing them at home. There are two ways to grow aloe vera at home, by removal of offsets and cutting. It is hard to grow Aloe Vera from only a leaf, unlike other succulents and cacti. The odds are small for the leaf to eventually take root and mature into a viable plant. Therefore, using offshoots appears to result in more active plants. Most gardeners use this technique for a healthy aloe vera plant.

  • Aloe can be grown from cuttings, but it must be a cutting of the stem, not a cutting of the leaves. Find an aloe leaf at least 3.15 inches long.
  • Use a pointed, sharp knife to cut the leaf at the base. At a downward angle cut the leaf with the stem. Make sure that you use a clean knife to eliminate the risk of the plant getting infected. Because an infected plant has a very shorter life span.
  • Leave the leaf warm for a while, long enough for the film to form over the cut part. This film will help keep the part of the cut from infecting the soil. This process might take as little as two weeks to as long as a few days.
  • Find a good pot to plant your aloe vera. The pot must have enough drain holes to drain the excess water out. If the drainage system is not right then the soil will remain wet. This could lead to root rot, which may destroy the plant.
  • Cover the pot with the soil of the cactus and dampen it with water. You can make your soil for the aloe vera plant. Mix your own by combining one-third of the sand with one part of the potting soil.
  • Try first filling the bottom of the pot with gravel. This is going to make the excess water drain out of the pot. Now plant the leaf that you have in the soil. Make sure that only one-third of the leaf is in the ground.
  • Place the plant somewhere warm and sunny, and carefully maintain it. You ought to keep the soil damp for the first four weeks. Wait until the soil is fully dry until you water it again.

Tips to Grow Aloe Vera Faster

  • The best tip is to add fertilizer like a banana peel to increase the natural growth of your plant. This helps in the faster growth of your aloe vera plant at home.
  • Providing the plant with the proper soil mixture is the very first thing you should do. To soak up any excess water, you use a soil mixture that has coarse sand or perlite.
  • The roots will easily rot away If there is any excess water laying at the bottom of the pot. Therefore, having a good drainage system is essential for the faster growth of aloe vera.
  • When the plant begins to develop leaves, use a larger container so that the roots have the space to spread easily.
  • Watering is also an essential part of growing Aloe Vera faster. Do not overwater your plants.
  • Provide at least 6 hours of natural sunlight or 16 hours of artificial light for the faster and healthy growth of your plant.
